Do you regard wordplay and nice lyrical ability the same? Why or why not?

Ronnie Sardi: Nah its a difference. You can have good or great wordplay but it doesn't mean your anything special lyrically. For example u could say i got a hat a bat and cat now i want a tat.... thats wordplay but notice how its not anything special lyrically speaking.... saying i got a hat a bat and cat now i want a tat is very simple and on the surface anybody can think of that even tho it has wordplay in it. Lyrical ability is about being able to paint vivid pictures using vocabulary thats extensive having presence on the mic, having a good delivery, riding the beat with rhythem instead of rapping against the beat or rapping off beat or putting to many words in a bar and putting together verses with some complexity to it. Check out a few songs by kool g rap called foulcats, mobstas, and hitman g rap is a perfect example of a MC that has great lyrical ability and great wordplay, he's the definition of being lyrical....Show more
